Where We Sit in the Supply Chain

 

We're a module-level integrator based in Xiamen. We don't manufacture TFT glass-that comes from BOE, AUO, or Innolux production lines depending on what your spec requires. What we control is everything after the glass: backlight design, driver board configuration, FPC routing, thermal management, enclosure integration, and the interface to your content management system.

We can match backlight output to your installation environment, configure driver boards for the signal format your media player outputs, and design mechanical integration that fits your fixture system. We cannot create novel panel sizes or pixel geometries-that's tier-one fabricator territory with NRE starting at $100K+ and minimum volumes that make sense only for very large programs.

You're comparing options. Here's how pricing actually works at our level of the supply chain.

 

Off-the-shelf commercial displays from Samsung, LG, or BOE retail product lines carry fixed specs and fixed prices. A 43-inch commercial panel runs about $1,200; 55-inch outdoor-rated units start around $6,000. You get what the catalog offers.

 

Custom module work adds an upfront engineering investment-call it $4,000 to $8,000 for a typical bar-type or stretched display project using existing glass platforms. That covers driver board design, backlight spec, mechanical CAD, and prototype samples. After NRE, per-unit pricing depends on volume and complexity, but on orders above 2,000-3,000 pieces we're typically coming in under equivalent catalog products by 15-20%.

 

The math: if you're deploying 500 units, custom probably doesn't make sense-the NRE amortizes to $8-16 per unit on top of component cost. If you're deploying 5,000 units across a regional chain, the NRE becomes noise and you're getting hardware built to your environment instead of adapted to it.

What Actually Goes Wrong in Retail LCD Deployments

 

Three failure modes show up repeatedly when we're brought in to fix someone else's project.

Thermal limits exceeded.

Window-facing installations get hot. Solar load adds 15-20°C to internal panel temperature beyond ambient. Commercial displays rated for 40°C max internal temp hit that limit on a sunny afternoon. The failure mode is capacitor degradation-you don't get sudden death, you get gradual brightness loss and color shift over 12-18 months until the screens look obviously degraded. The fix is speccing panels with wider thermal margins and integrating active or passive cooling at module design stage. We've done this for quick-service restaurant drive-through installations in Arizona and Texas where ambient plus solar hits 60°C internal regularly.

Duty cycle mismatch.

Consumer panels and some low-tier commercial units are designed for 4-6 hour daily operation. Run them 16 hours and LED backlight phosphor degradation accelerates dramatically-the 50,000-hour rated life becomes 15,000 hours actual. We had a grocer in the Southeast replace their entire shelf-edge installation after 14 months because no one had verified the backlight spec against actual operating hours. Replacement cost more than doing it right initially.

Interface incompatibility.

Your media player outputs HDMI. Or LVDS. Or your kiosk controller needs GPIO triggering for synchronized multi-screen content. Standard commercial displays assume a specific input configuration. When it doesn't match your system architecture, you're adding converters, adapters, and integration labor that could have been avoided by specifying the interface correctly at module level.

Why Not Just Buy Samsung or LG Commercial Displays

For some projects, you should. Brand commercial displays come with established warranty terms, known service networks, and spec sheets you can trust. If your deployment fits their catalog sizes, your environment is within their rated parameters, and you have the budget, there's nothing wrong with going that route.

 

We make sense when catalog products don't fit your requirements-when you need a 28-inch or 37-inch bar-type that doesn't exist in brand catalogs, when your mounting constraints require specific enclosure dimensions, when your brightness requirement sits between what standard indoor and outdoor units offer, or when volume makes custom economics work in your favor.

 

We're not competing with Samsung on a straight 55-inch commercial display. We're competing for the projects where off-the-shelf doesn't quite work and the buyer knows it.
